Not so long ago, many Filipinos were engrossed with ALDDub Kalye serye.

serye

Last week, many Filipinos become instant fans of SENASERYE, in which the highly respected senators clamored among themselves on the senate floor. And soon many Filipino’s Facebook newsfeeds were flooded with memes and signature campaigns.

Magically, the comments became an unending thread. Clashing opinions caused heated arguments among the netizens which gave me the impression that they must have known all the facts of what have been going on and what have been said.

That’s our nature. We love to watch and we love to get involved. Sometimes we are so busy and entertained that we almost forget the food we are cooking until it get burned. We are so busy watching others until such time that we also watch our own lives in front of us written by the circumstances we meet.

I would like to quote Bo Sanchez when he said “Be the script writer of your life”.  Don’t let others write your life story so that you won’t be watching other people’s version of your own life.

Don’t waste too much time watching these too much seryes around you. Yes, it’s good to be aware of what’s going on around you. Yes, it’s good to be involved but don’t disregard your own. You must create your own serye. Write, direct, produce your own PERA SERYE.

How to create a blockbuster PERA SERYE?

1. Create a monthly budget

It’s good to be spontaneous, but when it comes to spending your money, being spontaneous usually put your financial life in jeopardy. If you don’t have a budget, it’s hard to control your spending habits. I know, I’ve been there.

2.Pay off your DEBT

This is easier said than done. So, start writing your serye’s episode on how to finally get out of debt.

Start by recognizing how much you owe and to whom do you owe them. List them all and gradually, pay them one after the other.

The reason why you aren’t having enough money every pay day is because you are paying so much interest of your debts.

3.Build an emergency fund

Emergencies come when they are least expected. And because you aren’t expecting them, they always catch you unprepared. And because you are not prepared, you ask for loans and so you accumulate more debts.

Have a fund that equals your accumulated 3-6 months monthly salary

4.Get yourself insured

Filipinos are not keen on protecting themselves from untoward incidents like sickness, accidents, or worst-untimely death.

I know many stories-sad sad stories of Filipino families who have already exhausted almost all of the family’s resources for medications and all for their loved one leaving them penniless. The money is not even enough that they have to rely on the mercy of others.

5.Invest 10% or more of your monthly income

Many serye watchers might react again that this is too much considering that they only have barely enough money to afford their monthly expenses but that is a lie.

If you can afford to buy unlimited call and text load everyday- every other day-every after 5 days, if you can afford to buy Coke 2 times a day, if you can afford to smoke 5-10 cigarettes a day, If you can afford a Samsung S7 or IPhone 7Plus, then tell me again-is it hard to save 300-500-1000 Pesos every pay day to invest?

Once again, allow me to quote Bo Sanchez as he said, “Don’t watch your life”. Start writing your life and be the directors of your own SERYE. Create your PERA SERYE now.
